That's so wonderful! Congrats on you taking your first steps on your writing journey! And you know what? It's never too early to work with an editor. 

Some writers wait until they're totally done with the story. But every so often, that writer would have spent years drafting only to find that they need to delete a ton of the book or even start over. Never fun and it can be hugely demoralizing. 

That's a big reason why writers come to me as they're drafting. They like me working alongside them so they know they're on the right track from the very get go.

I've even worked with authors who come to me for coaching because they want to assess their story's strengths and create an outline (my Story Roadmap) before they even write it.

Depending on the type of edit, it can take anywhere from four to eight weeks. But you can add a Fast Pass which puts your manuscript at the front of the line and makes the turnaround time much shorter. Definitely inquire about the Fast Pass if you're interested or in a time crunch.

Excellent question, and here's the truth: I'm not for everybody. I'm high energy and use lots of pop culture references. I love my job and writers are my favorite people. I use book and movie and tv references.

So if you don't like those things, then you probably won't like my editing style.

However, I've been working with writers for over 15 years and I've learned a LOT along the way. In fact, as an editor and book coach, I see stories in all shape, in all genres, with all sorts of problems and strengths and fixes. And after this long, I'm very adept at not only what makes a story work, but explaining it in a clear and super actionable way. After all, what's the use of an edit letter or coaching call if you walk away from it still not knowing how to actually do what was discussed?

I don't use cookie-cutter models or anything that will water down your story or turn it into something else. 

It's like the Michaelangelo quote: "I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set her free."
